As I sat in a meeting in my boss's office, I was forced to point out a rather ridiculous looking green iguana of about 2 feet in length sitting on the portico of my office building--two floors up. I was not aware of iguanas as climbers in that sense, but clearly he/she was there.
The Caymans got their name from the crocodiles (not alligators) that used to live here. They've been killed off now. When Columbus spotted the two sister islands (Brac and Little Cayman) on his forth voyage, he noted the proliferation os swimming turtles which he then compared to small floating stones in the sea. The numbers are not those any more of course, but the government does breed turtles and the national meat is turtle meat. I've yet to try it. Turtle steak at the Grand Old House is a favorite and turtle stew is apparently an old family comfort food.
The British navy called turtle "the best meat available in the Indies." I understand it is somewhat like a cross between venison and duck.
