It is surprising difficult to discover the flora of the Caribbean. There are gardeners of course, but the sophistication of Britain or the U.S. with avid and readily accessible master gardeners seems less available to me.
I have yet to visit the Queen Elizabeth Botanic Gardens, which I very much look forward to doing.
All the same, there are some wondrous plants. One is lignum vitae...the densest wood on earth...almost 4 times as dense and hard as hickory. It is a relatively normal looking shrub/tree.

LV is the national flower of Jamaica. I have seen it on Cayman, but it is not common.
